Scrivener

Tired of keeping track of your story’s post-it notes and organizing them? Bogged down by the time it takes to organize the outline for your new work? Wasting time cutting and pasting sections of your work into a new order? Scrivener offers an answer for you.

Scrivener is an app for writers of all kinds and is used by best-selling novelists, screenwriters, non-fiction writers, students and others. It won't tell you how to write but it will provide everything you need to start writing and keep on writing.

Scrivener is available in PC and Mac versions as well as an IOS version for writing on your iPhone or iPad.

Its features include:

  • Easy outlining and outline revisions

  • Easy reorganizing/changing scene and chapter sequences

  • Integration with Prowritingaid

  • A story board

  • Your notes for each chapter

  • Your synopsis for each chapter

  • A section to store description and traits for each character

  • A section for storing information about places in your story

  • A section for storing and organizing research

  • Writing statistics to set goals and review daily progress, daily word counts, document word counts

  • And much more

An app this complex has some learning curve. Some purchasers have complained that it takes too long to learn. This doesn’t have to be true. Most users of Scrivener only use a fraction of its offerings. Some authors have used it to write published novels using the basics. Don’t try to learn the app from A to Z, instead stick with the basics. I suggest you watch a 28-minute YouTube video by Alexa Donne - Getting Started in Scrivener (On-Screen Demo!). She covers the basics that she has used to write several published novels. Once you understand the basics, you can branch out and use other features as needed.

I am using Scrivener to write several of my novels, using the features Alexa Donne includes in her video.

The Scrivener app is sold on a one-time basis for a modest price for the value received.

I recommend Scrivener.
