It will keep you cramped and insane your whole life, and it is the main obstacle between you and a shitty first draft.” This agrees with Ernest Hemingway’s statement, “The first draft of anything is shit.” As Jodi Picoult says, “You can always edit a bad page. You can’t edit a blank page.”

Ms. Lamott speaks about the joy of writing and how, “It gives you an excuse to do things, go to places and explore.” She says that writing motivates her to look closely at life, as life lurches by and tramps around.”
